1987 Topps WWF weird variation

I bought a set of 1987 Topps WWF cards, and noticed that the Bret Hart #1 card has the nameplate in white instead of yellow. I haven't seen or heard or found any info about this, so not sure if it's just an anomaly where maybe the yellow ink ran out on this sheet?

It's not faded, as evidenced by the Andre card next to it. The rest of the colors are fine. It looks veerrrry faded yellow if anything, lending credence to the idea that the ink ran out on this sheet.

Just curious as whether anyone has heard of or seen something like this. Thanks!

I am not familiar with this particular set … but I’m pretty sure it was produced by Topps. And other period Topps sets have similar color anomalies - often created when a color pass is missing or lighter than normal. these types of varieties are appreciated by variation collectors but rarely valuable (monetarily at least). Personally I like variations and think what you’ve found is pretty neat.

Looks like damage from exposure. Yellow fading to almost white but not quite, the red and pink fade. These are the primarily affected colors.

I think it is missing the yellow separation.

Looks like the red stripes are missing a yellow pass also, which lightens the stripes to pink.

I vote for faded yellow due to sun exposure. If this set was in a stack in a dealers case for a while the #1 card would be the one with sun exposure. Seems like the yellow inks go fast (similar experience with the 1958 Topps set ….)

Same thought, yellow fades first. You can tell overall that the red has lost some tone and it is difficult to fade red. The ease of yellow fade is why so many green 58s you mention turn blue (and are sold falsely as print errors).
