No fair looking this up - it should be fairly easy, but I find it interesting:
Identify the 9 consecutive seasons in MLB when there was a different pennant winner in 5 consecutive years in one league, followed by 5 different pennant winners in the next 5 consecutive seasons, in the other league. |

Shouldn’t it be 10 years? If it’s nine years I have the Pirates in 1960, the Reds in 1961, the Giants in 1962, the Dodgers in 1963, the Cardinals in 1964, the Yankees in 1964, the Twins in 1965, the Orioles in 1966, the Red Sox in 1967, the Tigers in 1968, but I don’t think that’s right because 1964 would have to be combined.

1981 Yankees
1982 Brewers 1983 Orioles 1984 Tigers 1985 Royals 1986 Mets 1987 Cardinals 1988 Dodgers 1989 Giants 1990 Reds Actually, you can stretch that AL list to six (8 if you don't mind overlap with NL), as the Red Sox won the A.L. flag in 1986, and the Braves won the NL pennant in 1991 (so '1981-86 AL, 1987-1991 NL with no overlap).

Somehow, the 1981 Reds should figure into this. They had the best record in MLB and did not qualify for the post season.
