I usually don't post on this side of the forum but I have a question and hopefully somebody could shed some light on this issue. So my cousin and I went to a local card shop back in 1999, bought some packs and boom he pulls this Hank Aaron autograph/GU bat card. The card has been in plastic since he pulled the card back in 99. He recently submitted the card to Beckett and was shocked when it came back as "Altered". So my question is, is this a manufacturing alteration? or did Beckett get it wrong? What would be the next course of action be? Thank you for any kind of feedback.

Card is mentioned at the bottom of this page, and supposed to be numbered to /44 like this one is. When you say "in plastic", and chance it was put in a screwdown "brick" holder? Because that can press the card over time and make it look like the card was pressed to remove creases. Otherwise, the card may have been cut short from the factory and therefore would have gotten an MINSIZREQ from PSA, or BGS may have required it to be holdered as AUTHENTIC ALTERED.

Nothing can be done except to break it our of the holder if you don't like the "altered" designation.
The screw down holder was the likely cause of the conclusion. The autograph and bat piece is the most important part of the card in my opinion so I would not worry about the technical grade of the card. |

John nailed it, the paper has been pressed out by the pressure of the screwdown.
Common issue and why screw downs are somewhat archaic as a storage device. If they have the correct depth inset some people enjoy them, however the 80s - 90s style of just two flat pieces of lucite are a death knell.
