Hello everyone,
I impulse bidded on/bought this 1934 Goudey Gehrig on eBay. The seller is pretty high volume, lists the card as a original, and none of his very few negative reviews discuss concerns about authenticity/fakes. The card feels good in hand and I have a few other Goudey cards that it compares to pretty well, but I am not an expert on authentication, and I've never bought a raw card this expensive before where I had concerns if it would be real/fake. I've looked at some sites that talk about how to determine reals vs fakes with Goudey, but at this moment, I don't have a jewelers loupe or a blacklight. The seller accepts returns for 30 days, so I'm not too worried on that end. I was just hoping someone with more experience/knowledge than me could let me know what they thought. Thanks in advance. Mike |

I was in on the Gehrig as well (congrats on winning it). It's impossible to say for sure without seeing it in hand, but I was very confident it was real.

Can never make 100% accurate decisions from scans (even good ones), but as best I can tell from the scan - it looks good. You should DEFINITELY invest in a tool like this: https://www.amazon.com/JARLINK-Jewel...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
If you are going to be buying cards like that!

It's fine. And I wonder if Gen./President Eisenhower might have signed it as a lad. Best send to JSA for authentication.

Echoing the others, that's the real 1934 card.
I'd be more worried about fooling with the 30 day return than I would about the genuineness of that card. Congrats on getting it. I'm an advocate of adding a black light / uv light to your tools. If you're gonna get a magnifier, get a black light, too. Most paper after the late 40's will fluoresce if illuminated with ultraviolet light. Seldom will pre WWII paper fluoresce. I like that card! |

I picked up the following items from Amazon. Both work well for me!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I also use a optical microscope. I had that for coins but it comes in very handy for looking really up close at cards. Congrats on the card.

Nice authentic card...I think the smile on Lou's face is genuine as well (in acknowledgement that we all recognize the card is the real thing)

Note that black light bulbs that screw in to normal household sockets are available at Home Depot, etc. Having said that, from what is visible, the card looks authentic!
