One of those weird situations where as a kid we always involved his name as a classic football hard ass . . . almost was synonymous with hard nose football tough guy. . . .but I never saw him play.

Yes. And yet, ironically, his name was pronounced "Butt Kiss"

The Bears seem very motivated and playing in his honor tonight.

Shame. He was before my time, but he's my Dad's go to example of a tough-nosed player. One of my earliest vintage memories is when my Dad bought me this Butkus for $2 at a local show, back when a $2 card was an expensive to my nickel budget. I thought it was so cool to have such an old legends card.

Butkus and teammate Gale Sayers are two of only four Pro Football Hall of Fame players to never play a playoff game. The Bears had quite a draft in 1965, they took Butkus as the third pick, Sayers as the fourth pick, and Steve DeLong as the sixth pick who unfortunately for the Bears signed with the AFL instead.
