I was trying to identify these cards the other day, and members of another forum suggested I post them here for more information. I have learned that they are misprinted cards from the T209 1st series. Has anyone ever seen cards like these? If so, how rare are they, and what would their value be? I am not looking to sell, just trying to find accurate information.

Definitely hand cut. From a scrap sheet?

Wet sheet transfers from a tough set-sweet! I have a general theory that a lot of scrap and many print oddities like this were used on the top and bottom of stacks of sheets in storage or when thye were shipped from the lithographer to the tobacco factories. Sometimes one got brought home and cut up it seems.

Very interesting! It's definitely some sort of scrap, as they don't have names printed on the cards (which should appear at the bottom), and certainly have been hand-cut.
If these were from a more popular set like T206, these would sell for thousands each. But cards like these from a set like T209, which isn't in big demand and doesn't feature any big-name players, will keep the value down. My suggestion would be to have them slabbed as authentic by SGC. Value definitely would be hard to pin down, but I'll start with an estimate of $300 - $500 each? I will now sit back and watch people tell me how ridiculously wrong my estimates are...... |

Very cool images used in the T209-1 Contentnea set (First Series)
As you know since you labeled this first image as T209 Gilmore, the first player images are of Winston-Salem catcher Hug Gilmore. Patrick Last edited by Vintagecatcher; 08-11-2021 at 05:27 AM. |

Assuming they are scrap as opposed to display cuts or something else, I think the value would probably be higher. There was an auction a few years back with maybe a half-dozen T209-1 scrap (can't find it at the moment), and my recollection is that each card went for about $1000-1500. I was hoping to pick up one or two, but they went higher than I could afford at the time. Some were just B&W and some had color. Heritage also sold two different T209-1 scraps with color back in 2015, and they went for about $2300 and $1800. Not sure where the scrap market is these days, but these do tend to be pretty popular when they come to auction.
