Story time..........and please bear with me. I am trying to attach the pictures in the order of telling this story. I'll mark each point in the story that has a corresponding photo with an asterisk* (2 in a row ** means front and back pics)
So I was browsing several online auctions the other day with the hopes of stumbling onto something random and cool that maybe not necessarily a card for once. Maybe something that most non-baseball folk tend to over look. I stumble across a lot titled "Vintage Sports and Ephemera Lot from Estate" I follow the rabbit hole, click on the link and go to inspect the picture or pictures. It was a single picture* and there was literally no other detail other than "see pic for detail" I must have been feeling "it" that day b/c for some reason I decided "what they hey" and set my max at 35.00. Low and behold I win....but the stupid thing ends up costing $20 to ship, so now we're at $55 total. Meanwhile I'm saying a little prayer as I go to sleep that night......."please don't be junk, please don't be junk, please don't be junk" Well it arrived today. I start unpackaging and see that everything is in binder sleeves, which I had not noticed when bidding for some strange reason. Initially my thoughts were, oh great I've bought a bunch of junk** but that at least I got what advertised in the auction pic. There were also 2 matchbook reprints**. The next set of sleeves had stamps and envelopes*. These are only 2 examples* that I loaded because there are around a dozen or so of these and I thought these were a couple of the cooler ones. I find this* in one of the envelops as well. I'm still skeptical of my purchase at this point bc for some reason I've never thought much of stamp stuff like this. I suppose they've been more of a niche/fringe item to me and I don't collect them just out of personal preference. So next up I find post cards** and post card type items**. About here** and here** is when I started to feel a little bit better about purchasing this as these were the first items that appeared to have some age on them. Then I get really lucky I hope. I find a "greeting" card type card* and open it to find this personalized message* (To Be Continued.....on the next post b/c I'm at the picture limit) Last edited by Bartholomew_Bump_Bailey; 07-06-2021 at 06:04 PM. |

So the book turned out to be this from what I can tell. Turn's out Henry is also Walter Johnson's granson, which is neat. Oh, and this 5x7 glossy* fell out of the card as well.
BUT WAIT....THERE'S MORE! After catching my breath, I keep going through my purchase that I'm starting to feel much better about. I find this pamphlet** I have absolutely no idea what this is. I wanted to scan more pics b/c its about 15-20 pages or so, but it is really fragile. Any help with more info on this would be greatly appreciated. There were more envelopes** as well, this one appearing to be hand drawn**, a vintage ad**, an 8x11 "cardstock" glossy photo thingy**, and a couple more cards**. And lastly...........there were all of these(CONCLUDED ON PART 3 REPLY POST) |

As you may know Henry is a member here and obviously could confirm his
Handwriting and perhaps let you know who he was writing to. |

Lastly there was this set of cards/postcards, I haven't researched these yet, just scanned them in while I had everything out. Oh and some have info on the back and some are blank? And apologies though, I noticed while scanning that I cut the bottom off some cards, they are not damaged (they're in binder sleeves, fancy binder sleeves at that!).
Not too shabby I suppose, whaddya guys think? |

I just hope he won't be upset to learn some random dude ended up winning such a personalized item, but fear not, as it's in good hands. Still shocked that I have these items hands, but good hands nonetheless........lol. ![]() |

Thank you. And about the pics, yeah I know right? I absolutely love the one with the kid in it as the "mascot", made me chortle when I first found it.

Hello Bartholomew,
That is indeed my note, and it was written to my cousin's son Darby, so I guess these items came from his collection. Enjoy! Henry "Hank" Thomas |

Great find and congrats. That must have been very cool going through the stuff. A lot of us have had similar type experiences. They are a lot of fun and keep it interesting.
I can also help a little with the writing. Great book by a hobby gentleman.
