Good morning,
Several years ago, my girlfriend's father gifted me a Sport Kings Ruth. He explained that he'd discovered the card wedged between a wall and a kitchen cabinet during a remodel in the 1970s. Now I need to sell it. So I listed it on ebay...and here I am with my tale of woe, lol. Given the card's outstanding provenance (I had no reason to doubt my girlfriend's dad's story), I've never suspected it anything but the real McCoy. Then I received a message through ebay calling the card "100% reprint." No explanation as to why, though. (I've also received messages from more scammers than I can count, but that's another story...) There was a time when I was a knowledgeable, serious collector. But I haven't collected cards since the 1980s and I'm learning that forgers have gotten really, really good. Over the past two days, I've read everything I can find on Sport King and Goudey fakes, and I've looked at dozens of Sport King cards. Nothing about this Ruth looks fraudulent to me. Even the printing looks good under magnification (to my eye, anyway). Am I missing something? I was going to send it to PSA, but they have a fifteen week backlog and I was hoping to sell it asap. I would appreciate any input/advice about this card's authenticity. I was offering a 60 day moneyback guarantee, but that won't instill much confidence in a potential buyer if PSA is a four month wait. Thank uou, Travis Wallace Last edited by THWW13; 01-21-2021 at 07:35 AM. Reason: Add photos |

From your scans...I am not 100% sure...but it looks kinda good to me? Many out there think if a card is not graded...IT IS FAKE...just because? Could be an idiot trying to scam you? If you could post better scans...right side up as well that could help.

Looks good to me from the scans. Don't see any red flags I would magnify and see if there are any dots in the border. If there are it's a bad sign. . Good luck..

Looks legit to me. But definitely needs authenticated.

It looks good to me, and I feel like I know Sport Kings better than any other set out there. It is missing the two major signs of a fake. I think you have the real deal there.

Mind you, it won't grade very high, but even as a '1' you are looking at $2,000-$3,000 depending on the eyeballs that see it.

You can also pay for Express grading at either PSA or SGC and get your card back in a couple of weeks.

If you consign the card the auction house may grade it for you. Grading it would remove any doubt to authenticity and maximize your sale price.

For a card that significant I believe grading and authentication is a must before trying to sell

I'd be worried if it did sell, the buyer would claim it came back from grading as a fake and somehow swindle you out of the card. Grade it, for sure.

PSA does not have a 14 week backlog for cards like this.
This cards value would necessity an express or a super express fee ($75 or $200) The express turn around is about a week or 2 tops and super express is about 5 business days. I would go that route. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

Just to pile on, the card appears legit to me.

Here's my advice: If you want PSA's best turnaround time, go with the $200 Super Express rate, which I believe covers you up to $5,000 in value. Then ship it to them with USPS Registered Mail. Not only will this provide you with the ultimate shipping security (Postal workers have been known to have been fired for losing a Registered package), it will also alert PSA that the contents of your package are valuable. I did this back in September, 2020, and you won't believe the turnaround time! My tracking showed that PSA received the package on September 16th. They actually processed it as received the very next day. Then I got an email from them on September 20th stating that my package had been already graded and shipped back to me! That's a 4-day turnaround time, with a weekend sandwiched in between! Try it.

I don't see an authenticity problem with it.
