Hello,
I recently acquired this Mickey Mantle autographed ball as part of an 18-ball collection that I purchased. After evaluating the signature and comparing it to others, everything checks out to me, but I would like some feedback from those with more expertise. I purchased this 18-ball collection from a local teacher, who had inherited them from a big-time collector and a mentor of his. None of the balls came with COAs. The Yogi Berra has an MLB "AR147650" hologram sticker, proving it was signed at a private Yogi Berra signing event on Dec 01, 2001. The Joe DiMaggio signed ball is part of a 1998 limited edition plaque (one of 361). Those are the only two balls/autographs that I feel I can 100% authenticate myself. Once again, I do believe that this Mickey Mantle is authentic, but I value the opinions of those with more expertise than myself. Thanks in advance. |

Not exactly what I hoped to hear, but thank you for the feedback. Any second opinions on the Mantle before I dispose of it?
Here are some pictures of the DiMaggio. I am almost certain that it's legit, but I hope I'm not off on this one too. |

Very sorry to have to chime in here as well, but I too think that Mantle is a classic forgery. PSA used to have a video on YouTube where their authenticator showed how to spot forged Mantle, DiMaggio, and Williams autographs...it was VERY informative and helpful. They showed examples of the common fakes on the market. Apparently they have removed the video (perhaps it was helpful to forgers?), because I searched to find you a link, and one link I had simply says "this video is private" when clicked. Anyhow, I had a ball that looked exactly like the Mantle you pictured. After viewing the PSA video I was so convinced mine was an "operation bullpen" fake that I took it outside and used it to hit ground balls to the neighbor kid, lol. The big tells on yours are the non-fluid writing on the "M"s and the "n" in Mantle that looks like a "u"...it's not supposed to be "Mautle."
Anyways, sorry...but it's a fake. I don't have an opinion on the Joe D...I didn't study him much at the time...I was only checking out my Mautle ball. |

The poor local teacher got beat like a red headed step child
Worst of the worst Mantle's you're ever gonna see. #1 tip off it is poorly executed fake is when they are wrapped like that. 2nd tip off is to use your eyes. Probably a Fake At Home shopping banana mantle that Monkey Mantle signed. |
