In putting together my HOF collection, I’ve noticed that Topps used a “reaching toward the camera in fake follow through” pose for just about every Whitey Ford card from 1957 on. At some point it had to be a conscious thing, a running joke, right? Anyone have any background?

Follow thru: 1957, 1959, 1962, 1964, 1966, 1967 There was basically two shots for most pitchers cards, the follow thru pose or the portrait. |

Huh. For some reason I hadn’t noticed that it alternated like that. That’s even funnier - that had to be intentional.

It's funny, as I'm semi-obsessed with the Whitey Ford phenomenon. Check out this thread from way back when...
https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=210985 And I included this in my 'The New Directory of Collectorisms' thread... 82. Left Hand of Fate (also Whitey Bored) The fact that Topps seemingly had no other choice but to feature Whitey Ford holding out his southpaw towards the camera in the very same pose year after year after year.

I’ll pick the 1966 as my favorite of the Ford arm extended poses

Easy fix, click edit, then advanced edit, that allows you to edit the Title. Fun post btw.

This thread deserves some cards in it, though I'm too lazy to go fish my copy out of the box.

It almost looks like he’s kind of smirking in the ‘66 photo. Like, “OK, we’re doing this one this year, eh?”
