Default 2020 MLB Games in ARIZONA-With No Fans?!?

Starting in May. I just saw that blurb on ESPN. I assume that's just an option being considered. If it happens for regular season games it would be VERY strange. Does anyone know more? Thanks and stay healthy.

My guess is that is the entry strategy for getting from where we are now to where MLB wants to be in the summer - playing in home parks in front of fans.

This will sort of serve as extended spring training for the players while eliminating the social contacts of the fans resulting from sitting elbow to elbow with thousands of strangers.

Not what any of us want, but maybe what we need.

All it's going to take is one of the powerful (among players) player speaking out forcefully against it and that will be the end of this particular plan. Trout, KB, even Alonso coming out strong "no" will sink it. Won't even need to advance to covid-19 testing phase.

Let's go full speculation and hypothesize that the 2020 season is called off. I don't want that, you don't want that, but I also don't want to live in denial. The hard fact is that it's a possibility. At some point the players are going to have valid arguments to call it off for health and career statistic reasons. Owners could argue they don't want to risk injuring their big-money guys (especially pitchers) for three months of doubleheaders with few days off. I know they could expand the rosters, but realistically most of the guys who are on the 26-man do not want to be competing for spots under such unprecedented circumstances.

And after another terrible Astros ruling by Manfred today, we know for sure there are some players who do not want the 2020 season to take place.

If they weren't getting paid, like most American who arn't returning to work, they'd all play.

But then Trout and others could sign up for unemployment if they were laid off.

I personally think the first game (with fans) should be July 4th. Practice or games w/o fans the whole month of June.

If the rest of America is going back to work, they better too, or they will look like the biggest bunch of p-ssies.

and what the hell are you talking about with this?

players have valid arguments to call it off for career statistic reasons??????

whaaaaaaaaat?

"I don't want to play because a shortened season will affect my stats"

Really? Then your fired. Let their asses go. Go get another job.

And to your owners comment, I'm pretty sure owners will want their big money guys playing. They prefer to pay them all that money to sit home????

And not sure where you came up with 3 months of DHs. That's not happening. It will be a shortened season. "Might" have a few DH's, but saying there could be 3 months of DH's is not realistic. There will not be.

IDK. A personal trainer from NJ once told me the players he worked with would never agree to shorter seasons again because of career numbers. That's why I said I was speculating-because it's hearsay. Fangraphs dug a little deeper into it via Stark article (paywall) so there's certainly a different angle on it.
