I saw this in antique store but didnt get it. I found no info about this box on the internet. Do they worth any money? It says Sweet Caporal 10 pack box or something on the side.
If i hv to make an offer, how much is a fair price? Last edited by chriskim; 06-14-2020 at 07:36 AM. |

More important thing to know about the box is the year of the tax stamp.

The box doesn't has any stamp nor date nor any indication of the production time period. I guess it doesn't worth any money then??

You just posted it an hour ago. Give people time to respond.

Thought for sure this was going to somehow reference the "Ask Dad he knows" scene from "It`s a Wonderful Life". Wish I could get my hands on that sign.

Hi Chris
Go back to the antique store and give Sweet Caporal carton a good look-over. Look for a Factory # and District. This identification may help us to date it. Furthermore, can you tell us the antique shop's price tag on it ? TED Z T206 Reference . |

The box was pretty plain, there were no Factory # nor District on the box, only that label and that's it. ![]() All items in that showcase had no price tag (which is weird) and I didn't ask how much they are looking for too since I wasn't even thinking to buy it at all (didn't thought they worth any money) but just that it was Sweet Caporal so I took a pic of it. If I go back I would prefer to know a price that box might worth so I can make a "wise" offer (if that's how that work for those items in that showcase) |

I think I've seen one of those boxes linked to the T35's.

The "ask dad" campaign was in the late teens or most likely early 20's - CRS - but will find exact dates when I can. NOT associated with any "T" card. I bought a similar FULL carton around 2000. If you want to discuss more about this and whatever you can email me..... I would be interested in owning the carton IF there are packs but equally willing to walk you through any particulars.
edited to ask - wait. No packs inside? Neat carton on it's own but not a lot of value..... Last edited by 1880nonsports; 02-21-2020 at 07:14 AM. |

Agree with Henry. Post-1918 carton (would have held 10-count boxes of Sweet Caporal). Maybe worth $50-$100 to a collector. Neat display piece.

I have already left town and will go back there in two wks, hopefully the carton is still there next time I visit that town again. If the carton is full and factory sealed, how much do they worth? If it worths a lot of money, might be i should go back next Monday. LOL |

The Sweet Caporal brand used the Ask Dad advertising campaign for a few years, from around WW1 into the 1920’s. Cartons held 200 cigarettes and still do to this day. If it is 10 packs, that means there are 20 count soft packs inside. The correct carton from the baseball era would say 20 packs. There is one on ebay right now with a pack that was just listed the other day.

I'd value it at about $100. Like the others said, it is a little after T206, but still a great display piece.

Apparently the London Lancet was not very happy about the ATC's interpretation and inferences from their research. They called-out the Sweet Caporal brand specifically in 1905.
The box advertising seems to align pretty well with the attached Los Angeles Herald Sweet Caporal "ask Dad, he knows" ad from 1916. If the box is full of 1916 packs, that aligns with the T-35 tobacco card issue date referenced on Todd's site below. http://www.non-sport.com/sets/134 Even better if you can find Factory No. 30, 2nd Dist N.Y. printed somewhere on that box or its contents. If you can make these connections, that box is worth considerably more than $100. Jeff |
