I have been looking at a few "old" baseballs and was curious if anyone knew where I could find any information on the history of the baseball. Thanks. |

I don't know of any books, but being a member of SABR is an absolute must if you are into the history of the game in any aspect. |

Joe Phillips (glovecollector.com) and Dave Bushing put out a small magazine-style guide to baseballs. Intended for collectors, its gives a short but good historical guide to the types, styles and brands of baseballs from the beginnings. It also has a chart of rarity and price ranges. I suspect that if you contacted Phillips or Bushing you could get a copy. |

I would be happy to mail it to you. If you are interested, please let me know. My email address is: rkaluzok@gmail.com Best regards, Ron |

I'm 99% certain there's a book on this topic but I'll be darned if I can find it on Amazon. I remember seeing it there though.

Yes.... I believe the author was a fellow who previously posted quite often on the Memorabilia side. Seems like it was roughly 3 - 4 years ago, in which he actively posted here. He answered loads of questions that people had thrown at him, and had done extensive research.
He was extremely knowledgeable on the subject, and could easily identify fake autographs, based on the dates of players' deaths and years that the balls were manufactured. His name may have been Brandon or Brendan. Can't quite recall, but perhaps a net54 search will turn up his posts. Best of luck! |
