Preserving cards in humid climate

We are moving to a humid subtropical climate similar to FL. I have many raw valuable cards and some that are slabbed. Are the slabbed ones protected enough from the humidity? Plain paper here gets wavy and eventually musty as do books. Is putting the raw cards in a toploader sufficient to protect them? Also have a few contracts etc. Your advice is very much appreciated

I would definitely dedicate a room with a dehumidifier to the important items you collect.

I agree a dehumidifier might be good. I think (not positive) the slabbed ones will be fine. If it were me I wouldn't worry about those. You can do some googling on the subject and I am sure come up with some good ideas for the raw ones. Most of us, me included, have never had that issue.

Purchase some desiccants and place them with the raw cards. They will soak up some of the moisture in the air. You can find them online.

Sell any Kellogg's cards you have immediately!!

I assume you will have central air. AC pulls a lot of moisture out of the air.

I have lived right on the Gulf Coast for 7 years now - Have Central AC - Haven't noticed any issues with any cards (slabbed or topload)

No central air in our Maui house. Just 3 room A/C's and 2 dehumidifiers and a fair amount of power outages out here in the boonies. We also have a condo in a drier area we do not spend as much time at so may keep them there as dry and secure but won't be able to see as often.

A cool, drier area sounds better. You can always scan and put the cards online so you can see them, you just can't smell them that way.

Yes I agree with this statement, I have had my collection in Florida for 40 years and I always keep my AC going and the cards are fine. I use my a/c 365 days a year though, I dont open the windows to get fresh air!!

My uncle kept his deceased son’s collection on an open porch in Florida. And gave me the collection that proceeded to go to the trash. Had to have water hitting the slabs I would guess.
