Hello, I ran across a couple of these at a local card show. I have never seen these before, so I bought them.
I tried matching several of the players that are listed on the box to the 1979 checklist in the Standard Catalog and it seems to match up, but I won't know for sure until I spend some more time matching more players. Also, the printing on the box says 4-79, so I'm thinking that maybe that is the date that the box was printed. Have any of you seen this box before? Any additional information will be appreciated. Thanks much! Rick

I've never seen one.
Regarding the year, the fact that Ozzie Smith is listed in the checklist (with the Padres), pins it to 1979, as that is the only Hostess set he was in. That was also the only year Mike Hargrove was with the Padres (he's also listed in the checklist). Steve

The Hostess Albums, etc were distributed at the 'Day old' bakery where you could buy the Hostess products for almost half off. The accordion style (from '75) I acquired from another collector in the day (I never saw those distributed myself), but the others I got in the year of issue (76-79). I never saw them at the supermarkets, though they may have been placed near the product. This was in the San Francisco Bay Area

Since they did the album/checklists in 1975, 1976 and 1977...and the Box/checklist in 1979, that begs the question of what they did in 1978.
Did Hostess produce any ancillary checklist items that year? |

The 1978 Hostess Album is pictured above (Hostess in Red). There is also a 1979 retailer brochure(pictures Guidry, Rice & Brett), intended for grocery stores, which promotes the cards. Presumably they exist for other years, but this is the only one I recall

Amazing that stuff can still show up 40 years later.
