Default Quick Rogers Hornsby card question
I was just curious. Why are many Hornsby's cards prefaced with "Roger" instead of the correct first name "Rogers"?

I believe all or almost all cards of Ross Youngs are identified as Ross Young. I have always assumed the press got their unusual names wrong early in the career and it just stuck.

Remember, this was before the age of television. Most of these items (strip cards) were made cheaply by small printers as free giveaways.

Similar to what Brian said, I suspect than once the fiirst or an early card issuer got the name wrong, it got perpetuated by subsequent card issuers, such as the issuer of the 1926 Kut Outs Die-Cut cards:

From my recollection, his mother's maiden name was Rogers, which was given to him for his first name, and people probably assumed that it was supposed to be the more traditional "Roger."
