It’s time to celebrate the Ookies.
You gotta admit Mookie Betts is off to a good start this year and may ultimately be the best Ookie in major league history. But not so long ago Mookie Wilson was lighting it up a little for the Mets. And don’t forget Cookie Lavagetto, whose walkoff double plated two runs in the fourth game of the 1947 and broke up Bevins no hitter with two out in the ninth. I was six weeks old at the time, but remember it like it was yesterday. The list just gets longer with the addition of Cookie Rojas, Nookie Logan, Cookie Cuccurullo and Rookie Davis. I hesitate to include Pokey Reese, not only because he is short an “o”, but encouraging you all to show your pokeys might not be wise. ![]() Let’s see ‘em. Show us your Ookies. ![]()
