So in 2006, Bob Lemke added Walt Barbare to the 1923 W572 checklist in the Stand Catalogue (although PSA never added it to their checklist).
I once asked him about why he added it and he said he could not remember. He said the usual practice was someone sent him a photo or scan and then he added a card - but he did not specifically remember this card. This is the only card in the 1923 W572 that hasn't been publicly photographed or graded. If you have it, PLEASE show it and prove it actually exists! Thank you, Patrick

Hi Patrick
Lemke was such a great resource for the hobby. His is missed a lot. He always verified things when I worked with him on some scarce issues but who knows if, early on, he was as tenacious about verification. No doubt there are some errors in our checklists. Good luck!! Quote:

What I worry about is - all of the W572 cards (except Ty Cobb) match the 1922 American Caramel E120 set. If someone sent a fax of a trimmed, blank backed/skinned E120 Barbare it would be very easy to mistake that for a W572 without seeing it in hand.
Cheers, Patrick

Good point - but I think both could be hard to tell from a fax if trimmed enough.
I'm just bummed it hasn't turned up because of this thread. I would think a lot of the people who would have faxed Lemke set additions would be on this Board. This won't be the only set with a questionable addition on the checklist. Cheers, Patrick

There are definitely a lot of people here that helped Bob with his cataloging. But also, I expect, a good many from off of this site.
