Looks like a magazine piece but the note on the bottom says to me that it is clearly a stand alone piece, not a cut out or something like that.
Any help identifying the piece and/or the players would be hugely appreciated. Eddie Collins is pretty obvious, but the others are not (to me anyway) some people have said the Tigers player looks like Cobb, but I'm not so sure even though it would make sense. I feel like the upper left picture is a famous pitcher, but am drawing a blank on why I even think that. ![]()

Appear to be a child's notebook/scribbler cover, possibly a proof.
That is Cobb pictured, and I believe its Smoky Joe Wood pictured at the top left. What are the dimensions? |

I was right, in my very vague and limited way!
It's approximately 8" x 11" Any thoughts on the players in the action shot? Guy on the sox is huge with a melon for a head!

The main player pictured in the center appears to be outfielder Clyde Milan. Glad I could help.
Seriously, nice item and I agree that it is a kids book cover.. |

The Cleveland player on the right side of the action shot looks like Terry Turner.

The White Sox guy could be Harry Lord. The angular jawline looks similar to his.

The action shot reminds me of a t202 center panel, I should probably look.

man the head shape, size, nose and mouth look good to my non-forensically trained eye.

Yeah, I thought of Dougherty too, and that comparison makes me think he's the most likely candidate. My best guess for the date of this piece would be 1912, since that's the year Smokey Joe Wood blossomed into superstardom, though he also had a very good year in 1911. Dougherty's last year in the majors was 1911, so the picture could have been taken then.

I love the early 1900's phrasing of some stuff.

It blows my mind that I can only locate one other of this series anywhere on the internet.

Bottom left looks like Vean Gregg. I kinda like the Dougherty ID on the action shot but that one would be tough to verify.

I have seen another one of these that had Cobb as the main picture, flanked by other major HOFers.

Hi-
I do not remember all of the details but I believe this one plus more came from a Lelands auction lot 10+ years ago. I do not remember too much more about it, but I believe there were 12 or so covers in the lot from this series (not all different). I am not sure if the lot is still viewable on their website. I owned one several years ago and I kept it for a while before trading it at some point. I know mine was different but I cannot remember who was on my version (not Cobb though, I would have remembered that). Nice item. Alan |
