As the Huggins and Scott listing said the B&W autographed plaque is super rare and also remember his wife signed a lot of his items, including this plaque .

There was about a 10 year window to get the type I and II Artvue signed. Slightly longer than 10 years to get the yellow plaque signed. Wonder if his wife signed that much more for him in the 50's and early 60's.

This is a crazy price. With this bidding, more will appear. Who bids like this?

Many years ago there was an article in the UACC magazine.
It contained the bio (maybe an interview also, cannot remember for sure) of a man who was a professional ghost signer for celebrities. One of his clients was Dizzy Dean.

While we are on the subject, who else is considered a rare autograph on these postcards?

Albertypes: Alexander, Collins, Ruth, Burkett (if it exists) are rare.

Huggins and Scott auctioned many of these plaques autographed including a complete set of them over the past year . Check their website under past auctions and you can see the results. They were really good prices .

Call me an uninformed buyer or seller, but who can justify having an encapsulated plaque and paying $17k for the plastic? As Richard said, obviously the kool aid tastes that good, but this is an item that cannot be that rare given the time frame given to sign. I understand a small premium for something that is "authenticated" by a "trusted" third party, but $16,000? Come on.

Even PSA's price guide says $750 for a B&W plaque. I understand that I too often disagree with their pricing, but I only use it as a reference because I'm not much of a plaque guy.

Dean's window for signing these was much longer than other players, so I am perplexed by this.

Gold: Foxx, Jackie, Goslin, and Bancroft. Bancroft easily the Holy grail as there was only a one year window.

Front-signed Goslin is much more rare than Bancroft as I understand it. Not to say Bancroft is by any stretch easy to come by.

I have yet to be convinced any front signed examples exist. The JSA one has been disproven if I recall.

I have to agree. Considering he was too frail to attend his induction ceremony, and he died less than a year later, I find it hard to believe that there are any legit examples.

There was one sold during a Huggins and Scott auction. I do not remember it as coming back bad. Plus it was slabbed, so it has to be good.

On a serious note though, does anyone have any idea when Bancroft would have received postcards to be able to sign? If after his induction, I'm guessing there are few to none that were actually signed. If it was more like 6 months before, then maybe a handful are authentic. I think I've seen 4, and of those I thought 3 were definitely bad, and the other one was a maybe.

The prices for all the B&W Artview or Albertype cards were crazy in both the Huggins & Scott and the Heritage auctions.

Along with Bancroft and Goslin there is also the question of whether or not could George Weiss have signed a plague also.

Bancroft cards are not extremely hard to find. I was the high bidder on the H&S front signed Goslin card years back. I turned it down after a friend advised me of an issue with the "authenticity". It was discussed in a previous thread. Adding a couple of my Bancroft cards for show..
