The 5000+ Trout card thread got me to thinking of the cards we rarely see come up for sale but don't always carry high price tags (relatively speaking). I remember it took me quite a few years to get my first T216 VE. I think the series of Tobacco cards between 213-217 are great to collect. But even this McGraw is only valued at a Post War medium grade Topps HOF card. Sometimes it doesn't make sense to me...this is the same price

I think its just the design. That McGraw card isn't very inspiring to me. Though there are some real blazers in that set. I'd kill for the Speaker.

I've been looking into the T213s a little bit lately. I didn't realize how scarce the Type 1s are. There is a nice Cobb for $20K on eBay now, though.

These sets are right in my wheelhouse...most of which play into my miller run.
I like to play runs with these issues...many are on par or tougher than the rarest of t206 backs. I've always loved these sets and I collect them all. There are many intricacies within these sets and minor varainces that t206 collectors would love! I have never owned a t217 though. They have nothing in common with the 3 other issues. Here's the T206 super-prints with T213-1 backs. Nothing cheap about these guys. I wish these cards were more reasonably priced, then I'd try
for a complete set. Currently, I only have 12 of these rare dudes. Incidentally, I didn't pay "20K" for my Cobb (it was significantly less then that). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() .... ![]() ![]() ![]() TED Z . |

Great cards Ted and everyone else. I am very slowly trying to get a HOFer from all of these sets and subsets (minus T217 -- I also know Murray isn't in the HOF - future upgrade planned there).

I love the New Orleans T-cards. I am trying to put together a type set, but I still have some tough cards that I need. T215-2, Pirates, T214, T216 VE, T213-3 overprint.
I scanned the backs of my 4 T216's. Still need the T216 VE. Maybe I can find one at the National this year. The New Orleans type set is: ( I think this is complete) T211 T213-1 T213-2 T213-3 T213-3 Overprint T214 T215-1 T215-2 T215 Pirate T216 Kotton - 3 different backs T216 Mino T216 VE

Guys, thanks for informative threads like this. As a collector who has always been postwar but is easing into prewar but not wanting to collect T206, you all do a great job of highlighting and showcasing other really good ways to collect prewar. I am already turned on to T212s, but I am really liking the looks of the cards in this thread, too. Thanks for the free education!

I agree with Sean on the T215 Pirate, no need to look for that one. However, as Net54 taketh away, it also giveth. I am working on the same New Orleans type set (though not restricting myself to T cards) and can make your search a little more difficult buy adding a few:
T207 Anonymous Factory 3 and Red Cross T210-8 - I don't know for sure these were distributed in NOLA, but this series features the New Orleans team and I feel like it is safe to assume these were distributed in New Orleans. Perhaps someone can provide an argument for/against this? T206 - There are ads for T206 Hindu in Louisiana newspapers (I think it was New Orleans) that featured T206 ... and the ad did not feature SLers, just regular cards. It is also quite possible that the OM SLers were distributed in NOLA as well. Quote:

Great PC Jerame! I love the oysters sign too. Is there anything on the back?
Also, the mark on the back of the Breitenstein is right where a lot of T213-1s are missing paper - the same spot at which Ted Z thinks they were glued to the inside of the cartons. Kinda cool to see one that might actually have some glue residue left there.

Hi Bryan, thanks for the info. I have a T207 Anonymous, but I forgot to include it. I don't have the others, but I will have to add them to my list.
I am also collecting non-T Louisiana issues, 1916 and 1917 Weil Baking, 1920 and 1921 Holsum Bread, and I am still regretting not buying a Mothers Bread card from Ed at the Chicago National 2 years ago. Rick

In addition to the non-T cards you mention you can add Tango Eggs and the few Cafe du Monde cards that still exist. All of this talk is making me antsy to add another of these cards!

You are going to cost me a lot of money by adding those other cards.
![]() I always wondered if the T215's should be included in the New Orleans type set. They were printed in New Jersey. Also, if we want to expand the list to a little more than just baseball, we can add these.
