Posting scans incl. PSA certification #'s?

At the risk of coming off paranoid, has anyone else ever thought that showing the PSA certification # in anything but sales threads is a bad idea, in terms of giving counterfeiters more information to work with? e.g. If I have a PSA certified 33 Goudey Ruth, and I post it in a pickups thread, I've now shared a legitimate PSA certification # for that card with anyone who wants to try to fake a slab.

Or is there enough cert information out there on Ebay, sales threads, etc. that it's unecessary paranoia? I suppose if it's a big card and is regularly exchanging hands in online sales, the cert # is probably going to be reasonably familiar to folks anyway.

I am just the opposite. Whenever I see someone block one out I am like why would they do that.

That info is so readily available that the few that block it out are wasting their time in my opinion.

Fair point. And certainly with a sales thread, I don't think you could expect people to take you seriously if you hide the serial #'s. I was more thinking "other threads," like pickups, discussion, etc. Am I unnecessarily putting my cards at risk of counterfeiting by putting them out there like that...

Admittedly, I only have a handful of graded cards, so it's not something that overly affects me at this point. But as I age (I'm only mid-30's) and the collection grows, it might be something I'd think more about.

You can find a number anywhere, even on the PSA website.

How many people have a gallery for their collection?

It's worrying that dropping a pebble in a river will redirect the current...nothing will help prevent fraud other than PSA changing things and at minimum making a better slab.

Do you not like their newest slabs. I have not tried cracking one so don't have an opinion of them. The old ones could easily be cracked and resealed with little no no evidence, they sucked for security.

No, it seems like too little.

I do not think that resealing is as scary as straight up having molds made in China, which I believe is happening. I would like a case more expensive to create like Becketts instead of the budget slabs Psa and SGC use. Also I have an idea they can have for free that I think would be revolutionary.

I want them to add QR codes to replace the UPC. These can be easily scanned by a smart phone and those codes would show a picture of the graded card on your phone for comparison. Winner.

No different than typing in a cert number - except neither one will work since they don't scan cards that they grade.

I am not sure how much collectors will pay for additional security? That being said, maybe at a certain level the grading should come with additional security. WIth the cost of grading, especially at the highest levels you would think the cost could be absorbed.

Just easier and leaves room for addition. But yes, they need to start with a photo library or it's moot.
