I apologize for listing the incorrect price. The owner is asking $2,600 (not 3600).
For sale is a 1940s Yankee Stadium Porcelain-Enamel sign related to the Yankee Juniors. The sign was purchased from the Stadium in October-November 1973, as the Yankees prepared to "renovate" the Stadium. This is part of the Detroit collection that included the 1923 ticket booth, ticket bin and Yankees equipment trunk. PM with questions, offers, etc. The sign is 36" x 36" and weighs approximately 25 pounds. The sign has been stored inside since its arrival from the Bronx. There have been no attempts at restoration. Its is in very good condition for its age and long use. It has typical corrosion at the corners and under the grommets. There are also typical signs of abrasion and enamel loss along the edges. There are six mounting holes. I've been told that the sign would have marked an area in the upper left field grandstand, where the Yankee Juniors sat. The Yankee Juniors were mostly City kids who received free weekday game tickets, often in large numbers (there are reports of as many as 5,000 at games). It was in the spirit of "let's keep the kids off the street". New York area newspapers occasionally pictured groups of the kids on the way to the games. Civic groups sometimes helped foot the bill (see photo). The Yankee Juniors were of special importance to Larry MacPhail, and several items presented on DiMaggio Day in 1949 were given in Joe's name to the Yankee Juniors. Thanks!
