This is a ticket bin (sometimes called a ticket box or drum) removed from Yankee Stadium prior to the 1973 renovation. Age unknown. It is in Very Good condition. The cylindrical bin measures 29.5” (height) by 12.5” (diameter). The top is detachable. All hardware appears to be original and in place. The Yankees sticker/decal remains in part. There has been no attempt at restoration.

The bin was obtained from Yankee Stadium in October/November of 1973 and subsequently shipped to Detroit, Michigan, along with other stadium artifacts. The ticket bin has remained in family possession and has not been offered for public sale.

There are two exterior galvanized drop handles directly across the cylinder from each other and about 20” from the bottom.

The lid is metal, as is the bottom of the cylinder. The two hinge leaves are detachable above the knuckle to allow for full removal of the lid.

The bin is very similar to Lot #1487 of the 1999 Sotheby’s Barry Halper Auction, selling for $2,070.00. The reportedly same bin was sold again at Guernsey’s Stadium Auction (Lot #21C) of October of 2008, and realized a final price of $4,500.00. The next-to-last picture shows the Halper/Guernsey bin.

The Barry Halper bin did not have its Yankees “Hat-in-Bat” sticker, at least when it was auctioned in 2008. The shadow/residue of a similarly-sized sticker is clearly visible in the same location as that on the current ticket bin.

A November 1973 story in the New York Daily News shows a similar ticket bin at the Yankee Stadium sale. That bin also retained its sticker. The Daily News photograph is the last photo shown below ("Susan Cain, 16, eyes a ticket drum and it's a steal at $50").
