I recently picked up a PC796 (a Wagner which I'm very excited to have). But I noticed that the back has standard real photo postcard markings, rather than the much more professional postcard markings I've seen on other PC796s. See the scans below, with the Wagner on top. Do I have anything to worry about? Thanks.

AFAIK, a PC796 Sepia (or its sister set PC 805 Novelty Cutlery) Postcard should never have a RPPC back, unless, I guess, if it were a photograph of an actual PC796 postcard that was then turned into a RPPC.
All PC796 postcards that I have seen have had this type of back. I stayed away from the Wagner for that reason. Last edited by Baseball Rarities; 09-17-2016 at 11:41 PM. |

That's item # 142099857104 sold by PWCC on ebay Sept 6th. You should return it.

PWCC gave a decent description of it but didn't go as far as saying it is a fake...It looks off to me too...

FWIW, there's a real one (PC796 Wagner) coming up in BST Auctions in a couple weeks. Catalogs ship very shortly.

good move, Brent...and while it's ultimately up to the consignor of the postcard on what to do with it, here's a suggestion:

They have 20 negatives in under 200 transactions. I bet their ebay message box is quite the show!!

Sheesh - SGC should take 3 seconds to line up their checks so it is clear whether they are trying to check counterfeit or altered. It looks to me like that check was intended for the counterfeit circle.

How about checking the flip on the Cardsaver? It says "ALT" in very large letters and they checked the "Altered" box.

But they should have checked "counterfeit." I mean I guess it is an altered fake.

Jobu was under the impression that SGC thought it was counterfeit. I was not under that impression, and was trying to explain it to him. SGC got it wrong. Happens with TPGs all the time.

It has been on eBay before, notice that even the front is off. In this copy part of his left front foot is cut off, on authentic copies you can see his left cleat.

Not sure that having a flip means that they shouldn't take 3 seconds to be clear what they mean on that details card. Also, if the grader did the sloppy check and someone else created the flip, it could be that the grader meant for this to be kicked as counterfeit but the person creating the flip didn't know what that floating check meant and picked (the wrong) one rather than asking.
