hello everyone.I am new to NET54,and fairly new to collecting t206's.I was wondering what some opinions were about the accuracy of the t206.org value estimator

When I was new to collecting I took that site by it's word. However as other collectors will point out that was made some time ago. The prices on there are not accurate to today's market.

SMR prices off of PSA are what quite a few people go by and there is a tool (I forgot what it was called) that can do a search of eBay auctions so you can get an idea of what the market price is for a particular player.

There are definitely some rare commons that bring a premium. Titus (has slowed downa lot though), Both Dahlens, Kleinow (Boston), Lundgren (Chicago), Frank Smith (Chicago and Boston), Bull Durham, Pelty, Ambros Puttman, George Browne (Washington) and Elberfeld (Washington). There are more but those are some of the more common ones.

thanks guys,i actually just picked up a kleinow,boston sgc 50,s.c.350-460 factory 42 op.for 50% of t206.orgs value,i also checked ebay recently sold for.i think I got a great deal.im a construction worked and don't have alot of money to throw around

Yes, but Titus, Dahlen (Boston), Bull Durham, and Pelty aren't particularly scarce relative to other commons; their prices have been driven up almost entirely by demand -- because of Titus' mustache, Dahlen's perceived status as a future Hall of Famer, the movie Bull Durham, and Pelty's horizontal pose. For Titus and Pelty there were supposedly people hoarding the cards and keeping them out of the market, but I'm skeptical that that has had much to do with their inflated prices. Those four cards didn't command a premium over other commons before the past 10 years or so, while the others on this list did, because they were recognized as being scarce.

Josh, you are right. But the SMR magazine is terrible. One must consider the backs too. Not all Sweet Caporal backs are the common $18 variety. And the Piedmont Fac 42 is very rare.

I think David addressed the Titus and Durham.

there is a tool (I forgot what it was called) that can do a search of eBay auctions so you can get an idea of what the market price is for a particular player.

When you do an ebay search on a card, scroll down the left-hand column till you get to "Completed Listings" [under the Show only category]. Click this on and it will show you every sale of that card on ebay over the last several months.
This, along with SMR and CardTarget, should give you a good idea of what a card goes for.

The t206.org value estimater is a valid concept as a way to think about values. It has unfortunately not been maintained and updated to be currently accurate, but the idea of a common base value times a back multiplier times a condition multiplier is a good way to approach values. Trae Regan put together the original concept, I believe, and Scott Reader has done updates on the back multiplier end of it. All three components can change with time for any given card.

I would add a museum pricing estimater as well. This is quite easy and can be accomplished by simply adding a zero left of the decimal point of a market value price. Using this tool on EBay will assure maximum exposure for your card as it will sit there forever and never be sold.

I have been meaning for some time to ask the same question about the T206.org valuations, so I was happy to see the question asked and answered here.

Originally, I wanted to know if these valuations would be a reasonable tool for estimating the value of my collection for insurance purposes. I acquired 392 of my 394 T206s AFTER acquiring my insurance policy.

Now I am leaning towards liquidating my collection so the valuations at least give me a ballpark idea of what the collection is worth.

Whichever way I go (updating the insurance policy or selling out), the info on the T206.org value estimator is useful.
