I have a couple of photos that show a "Sox" logo in a sort of tangled cursive. Can anyone identify this team/logo or any of the players shown? And has anyone seen/got any other photos that include this logo? Images attached below.
The smaller photo is about 8" x 4.5" and shows a young man who looks to me to be in his early 20s at most, wearing a team jacket with the "Sox" logo. His hat has an "S". The back of the mount contains only the handwritten "B R Mu" and "35x frame". The back of the photo itself contains no markings. The larger photo is a team picture, about 23" x 8.5", that shows 16 uniformed players in front of a grandstand, with several other men and women in the seats behind them. These players look to me to be in their mid-20s to mid-30s. The back of the team picture contains only a "West Coast Art Co." stamp with a handwritten "803" in the "No." field. On some of their hats an "S" is visible. In the image below showing 4 players from the team pic, I see a white "S" on the hat of the second player from the left but not on the hats of the third and fourth players. The young player's "Sox" logo is slightly different from the one in the team picture - on the the team picture's logo, the "S" has a concave top and a couple of other parts of the "calligraphy" have somewhat different thicknesses between the two pictures. I assume that this represents a difference in a logo between different seasons, since otherwise they are very similar. A web search for "west coast art co" led me to a Library of Congress page that showed several dozen photos credited to "West Coast Art Co.", including western mining images and West Coast city images, but nothing baseball-related. http://www.loc.gov/pictures/related/...ast%20Art%20Co. Thanks for any ideas that anyone may have. Michael
