It's a long shot, but does anyone see anything at all in this newspaper page that is recognizable, either in the text or illustration? I'm looking for clues as to which month/day the paper is from.
The photo is an extreme blowup from a snapshot taken at a Giants game at the Polo Grounds, likely 1910. Nearly everyone in the stands is wearing a bowler so it must be either early or late in the season. I've searched all the major newspaper archives that I know of and can't find anything that provides real clues. I've also messed with sharpening and contrast in photoshop and the scan/blowup is about as readable as it will ever be. The main headline reads ...SPORT RIGHT UP TO THE MINUTE. Near the hands at the bottom of the scan I think I can (maybe) see the words ANNOUNCE and GIANTS.....or not ![]() ![]() I'm hoping someone might be able to decipher something else that I can't. ![]() ![]() |

I once had about 20 crowd photos from the 1912 World Series at the polo grounds, and might recognize your photo as one of them, if you can post the whole photo. Sorry I can't help on the newspaper.

Thanks, but there are billboards/signage visible in the photo that date it fairly conclusively to 1910...plus pre-fire grandstand. I'm just trying to hone it down more specifically to month/day in 1910!

Here's the whole photo. The newspaper in question is at bottom right.
I believe this configuration of signage in left field is from 1910, and I'm fairly certain it can be narrowed further using the Bushmills ad specifically. There are photos of the Polo Grounds showing this ad in a different color scheme in April 1910...and then other photos, from August 1910, with the ad exactly as it is in the photo I posted. Which should place the newspaper and game around mid-September through early October (end of Giants season), given the seasonal shift to bowlers. ![]() |

Comparison of 1910 billboards. Fred Lake (Boston NL) is from April 1910. Annie Oakley is from August 1910. Notice the slight difference in the color of the Bushmills board around the bottle.
Geeking out over the details...is what it's all about. ![]() ![]() |

Did you search ethnic papers? Here in Rhode Island, the Portuguese immigrant community publishes their own paper; maybe there was a similar paper circulating at the time in Hell's Kitchen, and another in Little Italy, and so on.

I believe the headline is Non Stop Sport Right Up to the Minute. The first word is 'Stop' and 'Non" not visible.
