I am looking to start a back run for a player, and I have one simple question:
Which player or players have the most different backs? I am not looking for different factories of the same brand, just the different brands of tobacco. Is there a good resource on this? Pointing me in the right direction of some info would be fantastic! Thanks.

I either use the search function on T206Resource http://t206resource.com/Checklist.html or I go to the PSA website's population report http://www.psacard.com/Pop/T206 and there you can open up a drop down box under a player's name and see what backs there are. I'm sure that there are other options, and I'm not sure if these are 100% accurate or not, but these are pretty easy to navigate. My guess that it is the red background Cobb at 15? Which player are you attempting a back run on?

Easy selection....anyone of these 6 subjects will provide you the maximum number of 350 Series and 460 Series backs......these guys are the Super-Prints of the T206 set.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() For the maximum 150 Series backs, I recommend Mathewson (white cap). ![]() So, if you want to stick with one player, the two cards of Matty (pitching) are your guy. Between these two cards there are approx. 30 different backs. TED Z . Last edited by tedzan; 04-07-2015 at 10:54 AM. |

Wow, thanks for all the help! I have narrowed it down to the following selections:
First, my favorite card in the set is the Rube Marquard Portrait. If I had unlimited resources, this would be the way to go for me. I love the look of this card. From what I can tell, he has 7 confirmed backs, with 1 more a possibility. The others that are on my list are all only there because I love the pose or portrait on the front of the card. I am an extremely aesthetic collector, and I would love to have one of these in as many backs as possible because they are a cool card to look at the FRONT of. Here are the finalists, and how many confirmed backs each has, as far as I have found: Bell, hands above head (5) Butler, Rochester (6) Hunter, Brooklyn (7) Joss, hands at chest (11) Knight, portrait (8) Rhodes, St. Louis (10) Joss looks tough, and the fact that he's a HOF means it could really be expensive. Plus, if I am going after Rube, I might want to stay away from another expensive one... What do you all think? Is there someone out there doing a run of any of these already? I want to stay away from someone else's run, if possible. Any others out there worth chasing? I like the Chase (holding trophy), but I know others are already doing or have done his, right? Again, thank you all for the info already. This is why I LOVE this site!

Bell would seem the easiest choice of the players you've listed to do a back run with, but that card with an Old Mill back with be tough to find.

Alrighty everyone, I have started on a back run. I'm probably going the expensive route, but we shall see. Thanks so much for all of the resources about backs. Per the norm, I have learned more from this thread and the links provided than in my own research.
Much appreciated!

I remember you posting it a while back when I started a thread about the Bell with OM back. It was a beater for sure.

Started a buy thread also, but just wanted to update that I will be going after Rube in his different backed glory.
Looking for Portraits in PSA 3. Thanks!
