![]() ![]() This guy's blog is pretty cool (at least to the kind of person visiting this web site). This one in particular I found interesting, including a picture of this play from a different angle. Check it out... http://www.uncledocscardcloset.com/2...inson-275.html Last edited by Gr8Beldini; 01-27-2015 at 12:13 PM. |

That is very cool. When I retire in 4 years this is one part of the hobby I will enjoy doing. I love the late 60,s-early 70,s period of MLB.

When you check out his blog, you will see where he attributes other games to Topps cards as well, including the 1971 Thurman Munson card that has Chuck Dobson as the sliding A's player, a card mystery I believe this forum solved years ago as well.

Pretty neat...however, one detail was wrong. Murcer hit 4 homers in the double-header, but they were not consecutive. He hit three in the first game, the last two of which were consecutive, but was 0-3 in the second game before connecting off Sam McDowell in the ninth.
An equally interesting double-header took place that same day: Mets vs. Cubs. In Game 1, Nolan Ryan pitched seven innings and gave up only one hit - Tug McGraw took over and 39-year-old Mr. Ernie Banks laced a single to CF in the ninth as a pinch-hitter. In Game 2, Ernie again pinch-hit in the ninth inning - this time hitting a 3-run Homer off Tom Seaver. Thanks for this memory Ernie...Godspeed.

Thanks Howard - in my hast, I overlooked BBR's notation of which was Game 1 and which was Game 2 and went with how they were presented - in reverse order.
I never realized Murcer had done that...cool!
