Great looking Trophy Ball. As ya'll might or might not know there have been some extremely good looking fraudulent Trophy Balls in our hobby. One of our members has an ongoing and lengthy lawsuit concerning one or some. Can ya'll tell us where this ball came from? Any history at all will help your case/auction...unless it came from one certain person. ![]()

That final figure in the Legendary auction two months ago must have been an aberration. What do these actually go for normally?
ebay description: "Trophy Balls of this type have sold in the past in the $10,000 and up range - it should be noted that a similar 1866 trophy ball from a game between the Morrisania Unions and the Philadelphia Athletics sold at auction in 2006 for over $12,500"

We purchased the Ball at the Legendary sale and thought we got a great deal - figure it should bring $5000 to $6000 but the auction is unreserved (like all our auctions) and its a crap shoot!! That's why they call it an auction!!

P.S.: Legendary had the wrong information about the game - they stated it was some previously unreported game but Peverelly does record a second game played between these two league clubs in 1866 - he states that the Unions won the game but he does not give the date or the score.

Good research. I will see if I can find anything else.

There was a group of about ten of these Union of Morrisania trophy balls found some years ago. I believe yours is one of those balls. Here is mine from 1865.
