I've practiced on a few, often resulting in irreversible wrinkling, at best and complete disintegration, at worst.
Unlike T and E lithograph cards, strip cards or "W" cards were made with cheaper paper and not treated with any type of coating or powder after the original printing process, leaving them more susceptible to foxing, aging and water damage.
