Makes you wonder why some sharp legal beagle hasn't started up a "service" marketed to senescent collectors worried about just that eventuality. Any survivor lacking knowledge of the value of collectibles is liable to pawn them off for whatever they might bring. But an executor with fiduciary responsibility would have to seek the best way to liquidate a valuable collection.

I had to have the awkward conversation with my fiancé the other day about how if I ever went, she needs to consult with an expert before selling my cards. She knows the price of some of my more valuable cards, but I don't think I could persuade her that a beat up Venezuelan Topps card can actually be worth 10-20X that of its American counterpart.

Would she rather you spend it on booze which literally is peed away while a collection can be re-sold and possibly for a profit? You have to use the investment angle.
