I am offering a random assortment of some tougher to find cards from the 1980's. Hopefully the scans will tell you everything you'd like to know but if more information is needed I'm happy to provide additional scans or answer any questions. All cards and signatures are in NrMT/MT condition and guaranteed authentic.
All reasonable offers will be considered. S&H is $3 in a padded mailer regardless of how many you buy. ![]() RANDY MYERS 1987 TOPPS - SOLD ERIC SHOW 1983 TOPPS - $15 Show is most noted for surrendering Pete Rose's record-breaking 4192nd hit (and if you're a Cubs fan, hitting Andre Dawson in the face with a pitch in 1987). A troubled figure during and after his career, Show died in 1994 at the young age of 37 from the effects of drugs and alcohol. ![]() BOBBY BROWN Brown is a noted toughie who has refused autograph requests sent to his home ever since retiring. Brown lives locally, and after a LOT of convincing, a friend of mine was finally able to break him down for a private signing. Brown appears on many 80's set collectors want lists. He's done one public show since the private signing and nothing else. During the signing, Brown admitted that he stopped signing to increase the value of his signature, and had planned to start signing again when his kids went to college to raise money for them. 1983 and 1984 Topps - $10 1986 Topps - $15 JOAQUIN ANDUJAR 1984 TOPPS - SOLD GLENN BRAGGS 1987 FLEER - $5 Another toughie, although he's recently come out of the woodwork and attended some Reds events in recent years. A member of the 1990 Reds WS Champs. JOSE CECENA 1989 FLEER - $10 Cecena was out of baseball in the States by the time this card was issued. A fellow collector I know from El Paso, TX used to make frequent trips to Mexico, and I was fortunate enough to acquire a lot of guys who were previously MIA through him. Cecena was a coach for a Mexican League team when my friend got this card signed (and many others) in the stands during a rain delay. STAN JEFFERSON 1988 DONRUSS - $15 Jefferson was never an easy autograph. Even in the minor leagues he was tough to get and not overly friendly. Jefferson became a NYC police officer after retiring, and was at the scene during the tragic events of 9/11. This (naturally) changed him forever, and he became a recluse who barely left his tiny apartment. There is an interesting article about him here: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/fo...ticle-1.215940 ANGEL MORENO 1982 FLEER - $10 The story on this card is basically the same as the Cecena above, and acquired from the same source. A very tough card to find signed as Moreno was out of the U.S. shortly after this card was issued. FRANK VIOLA 1984 TOPPS - $5 Frank is active as a minor league coach and a very gracious in-person signer, but he requests donations to his charity for requests sent through the mail. While his cards aren't hard to find signed, I think this one is priced accordingly for a former AL Cy Young winner and World Series MVP. Last edited by dgo71; 01-28-2014 at 08:53 PM. |
