Just curious what the majority thinks is the best looking 1941 Play Ball? Not the most important or most valuable, just the best asthetically looking card to you. And why would be interesting too. I am torn between Ted Williams (very realistic and Vince DiMaggio (with that crazy background). I also like Campbell (with the stadium bkgd.), Dahlgren (good colors) and Dom DiMaggio (subdued bkgd,).
What say yee?

Joe D. Tough card near the end of the set, and love the purple and green background.

Keller. No particular reason. Maybe it's the contrasting background colors that set off the card, paired with his straight ahead look. It's my only graded card for the set.

Here is my set all put together and cleaned up
![]() Besides the Joe D, I happen to also like the Doerr. Beautiful background... reminds me of summer. |

While it's probably the most obvious and most common choice, I have to go with the Joe D. Ever since I was a kid and first noticed that card in the full color section of the Sport Americana price guides during the early 80s, I've always thought it was one of the best looking cards in the hobby, just on pure aesthetics.
I'd also echo Tony's pick on the Doerr. I had that card in my saved ebay searches for years, but never picked one up. Love the pose and background on that one. Let's throw an honorable mention to the Gehringer card. Classic art deco, nice follow-through pose by Charley, and some World Series bunting in the background. I like the Foxx. The DiMaggio is always out of register.

I like all the cards that have been mentioned so far. Based on aesthetics, the Gehringer card is my favorite card in the set. The Johnny Vander Meer is another favorite of mine. I like the pose on the card with the stadium in the background.

I like the Foxx by far the best. Gehringer a close second.

I totally love this set. Too many great cards to pick just one. Hubbell, Dickey, Dom D, Indian Bob. Foxx is a killer.
McQuinn's card looks like the artwork in a first grade reader when the world was peachy keen. The little kid in me loves it. Leonard is all business on a field of dreams. ![]() ![]() Here's a link to my ImageEvent gallery if you're interested in seeing a "collector's" grade set. http://imageevent.com/kawika_o_ka_pa...l/1941playball |
