1915 CJ set sells

The 1915 Cracker Jack set mostly raw, gd/vg sold in Tacoma just a moment ago for $46,000 with the juice:

The auction is still going on, it was lot 25.

Very strong price on these cards, Peter F is there and found a pinhole in the BVG Jackson 2, makes the final sale price seem even higher. There are a bunch of nice ones in there.

Looks like all nice clean and crease free cards, lot of grade 4's maybe by the pictures.... can't tell if any may have tiny pinholes though.

I don't know a ton about CJ's, but aren't caramel stains extremely common? I'm a little skeptical due to the fact that these cards are 1) so clean and 2) every card seems to have the exact same amount of wear. Like I said, I'm no CJ expert, but that's what goes through my head when I look at these.

Peter said the cicotte and another common also had ph, possibly a trim or 2, commons nicer than the star cards, minor paper loss to back of speaker, a couple crease to Wajo, lots of corner creases and soft corners on all with a few more HOFers with a couple creases.

Unlike 1914 CJ's which were found exclusively in CJ boxes, the 1915's could also be ordered directly. So, there are a fair percentage of 1915's with no stains.

15s can very often be clean-- they were not exclusively distributed in the candy boxes as were the 14s.

I think most of these cards were played with, put away in the box and forgot about for years. Probably ordered the set as a whole, stain free.
