Ok, I know this thread will get some chuckles,,, what can I say?
Considering the Mets are probably favored to finish last in the NL East, let us at least enjoy some of their memorabilia.
Let's see what you got.
Some of the items I post have been seen in other threads.
The first one is a cardboard 7UP-1962 sked advertising piece that is a little too big for my scanner followed by 1986 full tickets to Gm. 6WS, yay Buckner, and Gm 6 NLCS, yay to not facing Mike Scott, cardboard Mets logo with a few autographs and a full ticket to Gm 1, 1962, the Mets home opener in their first season.

I was at both games,,,
Game 5 NLCS 1999, the Robin Ventura grand slam single game, best game I ever saw in person.
And,,
the last game at Shea Stadium,, terrible way to end the season and close a ballpark.

Subway Series 2000 - Went to games 1 at Yankee Stadium and Game 5 at Shea.
The subway tokens, which are not used any more, could be worth more than the mint ticket stubs.

thanks doug, i got the foul pole from a Leland's auction 2 years ago, along with some light pods from the scoreboard...that foul pole section is extremely heavy...that's a bummer if there wasn't a game played on aug 17th...maybe the stub was used for the make-up date?

Hi Richard,

OK, I'll play! Some of you may know that I am an advanced Nolan Ryan collector. Here is a look at some of the items in my Ryan Mets era showcase. I love the Mets stuff!

Some of the standout items that you can see are:

- A game used Ryan spike from 1971. This originated from long-time Mets fan Paul Hill's personal collection. Hill collected one game used item from every player that he came in contact with. This was his Nolan Ryan Mets piece.

- A game used ball from 7/1/69 at ST. Louis. Background info: HOF'ers Steve Carlton and Nolan Ryan (All-time right handed and left handed strikeout pitchers when they retired) face each other for the 1st time. Steve Carlton came out on top in their 1st match up. This ball was given to Steve after the game by a long time trainer and clubhouse man of the ST.Louis Cardinals. This originates from Steve Carlton's personal collection.

_ Tickets to Nolan's 1st career strikeout (1st 3 of 5,714 K's), 1st win of 324, last Mets win, only World Series appearance and win

- An official NL ball signed by Ryan in his Rookie Season in 1968

-Original 1968 snapshot of a babyfaced Nolan Ryan signing autographs out in front of Shea in 1968.

i was at that game too! amazing game! i have to dig up that stub.

My son and I still love to talk about the game. Neither of us realized what had happened to end the game in the 15th inning. Mets only needed a fly ball from Ventura to win the game. We saw the ball take off and immediately knew it was enough to win the game. We turned to each other and started to high five,hug,shout,jump and enjoy the moment, but we never saw the ball go over the fence .
My son still loves to bring up the fact that what makes a game like that one so great is the fact that a team will fall behind first before staging their rally. The Braves scored one in the top of the 15th and the Mets scored two in the bottom of the inning.

The original schedule has the Cards visiting the Mets for a night game on Friday, Aug 17 (the night that your stub is from), and day game on the 18th.

They ended up playing a doubleheader on the 18th, so I'm thinking the Friday night game got rained out before it started, and played the next day.

I haven't checked my 1962 TSNs for any sort of write up about details of what happened.

Here are a bunch from '69, including a few I actually got within the past week. The one blue pennant is really strange ... originally it was made to say Eastern Division Champs but apparantly the pennant company wanted to better utilize what was leftover after the series and painted over it with what looks like part of an orange crown. It is really heavy paint, clearly done at the factory.

Yeah... she's pretty hot

Keep an eye out on ebay... she tends to turn up maybe twice a year (either with or without Mr. Met). Also, Inside the Park Collectibles seems to get these about once a year. VERY tough to find her with the original Pennant (it is usually missing or a repro).

Never seen that one before. Could you possibly post a better close-up of just that "orange crown" pennant? Also (at the risk of hijacking this thread)I'd love to see a better shot of the Boston Braves Pennant in the background.

Hi Mark ... surely ... you can see the "Eastern Division" print from the back of the pennant, and even from the front if you look at it from an angle you can see the outline of the letters under the orange. The Braves pennant is an interesting one, it doesn't fit a pattern that I've seen from other teams. (You know what I mean, most pennants fit a set design with similar print, logos, etc.) This one is fullsize with very thick tassels (tucked behind).

Never seen either of those before. That Braves Pennant is a killer. I wonder what the story is behind that one? We'll never know, of course, but it's a "keeper" nonetheless.

Of all the photos I own, this one is probably my favorite...there is a tenderness that you rarely see in life much less between professional atheletes...

Sorry the image is so small, but here's a 1961 Casey Stengel check made out to "Essex House" with "NY Expenses NY Mets" written in the corner. What makes this check particularly significant is that it was written October 12, 1961, two days after the expansion draft in which the players who would comprise the inaugural 1962 Mets were selected. Unfortunately, the bank cancellation holes go through the words "NY Mets," but that doesn't take away from this check's historical value.

Here's a good one. Yesterday, there was a "50 Years of Amazin' Baseball" autograph event which took place inside the Ceasars Club at Citi Field. The Mets were selling some of their memorabilia at the event, and they had game-used baseballs for $20 apiece, or $25 if they were from Citi Field’s first season. I don't know what unattributed game-used baseballs are "worth" in the regular collectors' market, but during the season I've seen them for sale in the Mets' Amazin' Memorabilia stand for higher prices, and considering that the Mets ask $30 for brand new NON-used official MLB baseballs in their team stores (yes, I know you can get them elsewhere for much less), I decided this wasn't such a bad deal, and I went ahead and bought the two Citi Field Inaugural Season balls shown in the photo below.



(Yes, this is how they were presented. Loose in the basket, pick through 'em and take the one(s) you want. And yes, I did move the baseballs around so that the two Inaugural Season baseballs were prominent in the photo.)

When I got home, I looked up the provenance of the baseballs on the MLB Authentication website. According to MLB, the Citi Field logo ball in the middle of the tray, the right one of the pair, was used in the first “Subway Series” game played at Citi Field - June 26, 2009.

And the other ball, the one to its left, was used in an even more historic game. This ball, it turns out, was used in the August 23, 2009 game against the Phillies - the game that ended on an unassisted triple play, only the second time in the entire history of Major League Baseball that a game ended that way. This specific ball was not, of course, THE ball that was used in the play - in fact, it was used rather early in the game (“O. PEREZ THROWN TO S. VICTORINO, BALL IN DIRT,1ST INNING,” according to MLB) - but it was still used in that game.

Considering that the Mets have asked $500 for baseballs used in the final game at Shea Stadium, I’d say at $25 apiece, I got a pretty good deal.
