Can you tell us what kind of stock and what size it is? Also curious why you feel it is as early as 1941?

Stan is not wearing number 6 for the Cardinals so that has lead many to speculate it is either an early spring training photo from 41-42 or a shot of him in his minor league Rochester Redwings uniform where he played in 1941.
While I can't help with identifying what year or who issued this I do know the original photo was taken by William C. Greene of The New York World-Telegram and copyrighted in 1942. Check out this link for more information on the original photo http://thecardinalnationblog.com/201...wear-number-6/ |

Here is another article concerning Musial and the number 19 uniform.
http://thecardinalnationblog.com/201...tanley-musial/ As an aside, I know someone who is a HUGE Stan Musial fan and collector and he supposedly owns the number 19 jersey. I haven't talked to this collector in about 10 years but I do remember him telling me one time that he knew about Musial wearing the number 19 jersey and he went out and found it and bought it. It has the look of one of those self developing deals. The layout looks very similar to the 1948-49? mp&co photoprint of Babe Ruth. I believe 2x2.5 is the size of the Ruth as well. Plus the same photo of musial was used a handful of times(as far as I know, at least as late as '46-'47 for the propagandas montiel). It wouldn't surprise me if this is a mp&co. And would guess to date it the same as the ruth..
I personally don't think that the #19 is at all useful for dating in this case..I don't think people payed as much attention to things like that back then when it came to producing these cheap entertainment type items. So cost probably took precedent over using an updated photo.... Last edited by novakjr; 06-16-2013 at 04:02 PM. |

It appears to be the same shot used for his 1946 Propaganda Montiel (cuban) card...
