I'm not much of a type set collector..I usually work on complete sets. But I've decided to take on a new goal that's a bit out of the ordinary.
I want to get a copy of every card featured in the 1973 book "The Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading and Bubblegum" book. For those of you who aren't old enough to remember it was pretty much the very first book to casually feature baseball cards. Flipping through the book I'm well on my way already, having every set back to 1957. The book features a lot of cards from the 1952 set. Luckily the book is primarily made up of common players. There are some stars to be sure, that I have to get. The Koufax rookie is in there, a 1955 Ted Williams, 1953 Satchell Page. A few others might cost a bit. Wish me luck. |

Sounds like a fun challenge.
I've had to scale back on my 52 topps buying lately (I'm a filmmaker and I'm starting a new documentary), so to take its place I've been going on a hunt to find a copy of every photograph upon which a 52 Topps artwork was derived..so far I've got 20...it's gonna be a long slog for sure! |

I have the book, and think that is a great idea. You should report back on progress and maybe post some of the notable examples

I thought about doing that maybe twenty years ago but never pursued it beyond buying a Sibby Sisti card. Totally do-able and I for one believe you should post 'em as you get 'em!

Best ending to a book ever..."Goodnight, Sibby Sisti, wherever you are."

What are you going to do about the cards on the cover? Gonna collect those, too? I know there's Herb Score, Bobby Thompson and you can see Elroy Face in the background...then it gets tricky, as you can tell who some of the cards are, but maybe not all of them.

My hope is to confirm that, despite evidence to the contrary, there never was, nor will there ever be a ballplayer by the name of Clyde Kluttz

There's at least a T card missing from that list I think.

There are no T cards in the profiles section. That's where all the commentaries are. There are two T cards, a couple of Bazooka All Time Greats and a 1940 Playball shown earlier with the caption "They don't make them like this any more" but there's no humorous commentary on those so they're excluded.
