How to Protect Canvas Signatures?

I recently picked up a rather large, signed canvas print that was framed without glass. The signature is in blue sharpie. Do signatures on canvas last longer than on photographs/posters? Or should I have this piece re-framed in order to keep the signature in original condition?

Thanks ahead of time, and I promise that one day I hope to contribute more than asking constant noob questions.

Not sure if the sig will last longer on canvas, but it still might fade if not protected. If you like the framing, you could probably still get some uv glass to put on it, or just get it re-framed with uv glass. Either way, make sure it's protected or it probably will fade. UV glass in any size can be purchased in just about any art supply store, framing store, or even on-line.

if it is a painted item then depending on the medium glass might not be the best thing for it

Murph, that is why I'm not jumping the gun on this one. I figured there must be a reason the item came with no glass.

The item itself receives minimal sunlight, so I guess that is working in my favor.

Depends on the type of canvas and ink used in the signature; acid-free, etc. Canvas in general will last much-much longer than any poster or print. It is a very secure way to preserve and protect any medium; paint or ink. It should not be necessary to put it under glass if it is not in direct UV light. He's talking about a print on canvas, not a painting so uv glass will not hurt it...only help it. If it were me, I'd still go with the uv glass. Chances are it's not on there now because of the extra price or, as said, it will be ok without it. But hey, roll your dice and take your chances.

Thanks for the input gents. The item is a Mike Trout 24x36.

I would like to get a UV for it, but I think the cost of the framing would be too much, especially if the canvas doesn't necessarily need it.
