These guys locked horns last night in what has to be the most intense fight I've seen all year. It was a brutal, brilliant, beautiful war from the opening bell. Guerrero dropped Berto twice in the first two rounds but Berto recovered and hung in and they went ten more rounds of all-out action. The fight could win the fight of the year award and the 12th round should be round of the year. Both guys looked like they'd been through a war at the end. Even Max Kellerman, who interviewed them in the ring afterwards was effusive in his praise. And watch the interview--sparks continued to fly while the two were talking.

Not the prettiest fight in the world, but a brutal, brutal bout with lots of old school tactics by Guerrero, who impressed me coming up in weight.
Berto showed a ton of heart, fighting with little or no vision for a good portion of the fight, and getting in plenty of licks himself. Guerrero showed an excellent beard. |
