There is no date on this ticket stub, so I'm wondering if anyone out there might have an idea what year it was issued.

Shibe Park was built in 1909 the name on the ticket is actually the real last name of Connie Mack. From my research this could be anywhere in the 1920's

Definitely 1930's. Grandstand tickets cost $0.75 in 1909 and still cost $1.00 in 1940. Note that there are no taxes associated with the ticket cost. I'm not sure when Philly implemented a 4% amusement tax, but it was raised in 1946 to 10%. My guess would be between 1932-1936. The company on the back did not go into business until 1929.

Jim,
To me this was the vital piece of the puzzle. Can you share how you found this information? I was searching, but obviously in the wrong places. Thanks

Actually, I found another source that shows they were in business as early as 1914. However, the ticket price seems to support thirties or forties. This is not my area of expertise. Does anyone have any idea what this is worth?

Most guys who collect tickets collect them for things that happened in the game. Therefor they prefer a ticket with an actual game date on it. Tickets such as this one may interest some who collects various types of tickets but unfortunately I wouldn't value it very higyh. Maybe $10.

I have one from the years 1936-1937 that exactly matched the authors' exemplars and had a price of $1.14 on it, FWIW. I hope this helps. |
