Just happened to be reading the story behind the recent SCP auction of the hat worn by Bobby Thomson when he hit the "Shot Heard Round the World". It was sold by the family of the man who pulled it off Thomson's head.
Here's my question -- shouldn't the hat actually belong to Thomson's family? ( I believe hats belonged to ball players and were not returned to the team) The hat was stolen right off of Thomson's head -- how is the family of the "thief" allowed to sell it at public auction? Obviously the statute of limitations has come and gone for any charges, but I would still think that if a man walked up to me and stole a valuable piece of jewelry , and then decades later publicly announced that it was stolen and tried to sell it, that I would have a right to the jewelry or the proceeds from the sale. http://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com...auction-block/ Greg |
