Thank goodness for "QUALIFIERS"!! If it wasn't for the ST qualifier on this card I would not have been able to afford it and this card would not be in my collection.

Is the ST on that just for the regular caramel staining?! If so, shouldn't practically every '14 CJ have that? Poor grading, but hopefully it made for a better price for you on a great card!

That's a 1972 Compspec. It's pretty hard to find The Pistol from that set.

I would have to put my memories of watching Maravich play, right up there. My Dad would always get tickets when New Orleans came to Denver.

The main card I wouldn't get rid of is a '73 Munson from the last year I collected 'new' cards - had it SGC-slabbed for grins about 8 years ago. Came back as NM, because as a kid, I had no interest in the Yankme's.

And relevant to me as a few years ago, I was in need of a new car and wanted to be able to buy a house too so I actually did part with the bulk of my collection - only keeping a few things.

If I had to do it today, I would truly have some tough decisions to make. My favorite sets are sets that I've put together 2-3-4 times now and at this point, enjoy them for the sake of collecting/displaying them if nothing else.

My e98s and e103s would be collectively, amongtst the last groups of cards to go and I would do so very begrudgingly. My e90-3s might fall into this group as well. However, beyond these three, there's only one group left and those are my "oddball cards". These oddballs, many of which are possibly unique variations, would be the very final cards to go. I don't have it narrowed down to just one at the present time, but I'd say my e90-3 Payne (blue variation) would be one and my e94 "Silverback" Doolan variation might be another. The blue Payne may be unique for that particular player and the "Silverback" e94 might be a unique color altogether as nobody has ever seen a second that I'm aware of.

The 3rd is a d311 "Bluegrass" variation which I'm very fond of because bakery cards don't tend to have the same printing flubs that caramels do. Any of these three would be highly, highly difficult to replace if not literally impossible. I also have some individual non-oddball favorites - t209 BE Thompson, e103 Tenny, e90-3 Hahn that I would be very, very loathe to part with as well.

In 1979 I bought my first pack of baseball cards at our neighborhood little league field. In the pact was a Jim Palmer. Being from Maryland and an Orioles I was cloud nine. It eventually went into my canvas suitcase where I deprecated the cards into teams wrapped with a rubber band. The corners are gone and it's a beater and I even got Palmer to sign it...it's not going anywhere.

There is no way I could pick just one card but it is good to see that for most people it just isn't some high value card. Not saying that is wrong because I'd sell a lot of cards to get a Pirates Kalamazoo team card which would then go in my cold dead hands category. Cards that I won't get rid of now include:

I actually have two, one for sentimental reasons, and the other for collecting reasons. The first is this 1977 Fidrych rookie. I pulled the card from one of the first few packs I opened as a 7 yr old kid. My Mom held onto it for decades as her own (she adored The Bird). She passed away just over a year ago at 84 yrs old, and left the card for me. It's a very special card to me, despite being a beat up piece of cardboard with a goofy, curly-haired kid on the front.




The 2nd card is one that I'll never sell, as it's pretty much irreplaceable. A 1914 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb with virtually no staining, no wrinkles or creases, in a lower grade that falls within my price range. It originally came out of a box of Cracker Jacks, but it now sits in an SGC 40 holder.

Here's my two. My dad was heavy into local postcards and I into baseball. We went to a postcard show and a guy had these two. We worked out a deal in which my dad had to give up some of his best cards so I could have these. It was a great sacrifice a father made for his son. Thanks again dad.
