I've been seeing quite a few pre war baseball cards, PSA graded, and it appears that there is some kind of bag inside the slab. It doesn't at all hinder the viewing of the card, as this appears only in the area surrounding the card.
Note: this image comes from the REA auction website, and I am only using it for educational purposes. Leon, if using a picture from an inactive auction is a no no, please feel free to delete it. URL source for the image http://www.robertedwardauctions.com/.../2012/166.html ![]() As far as vintage and prewar cards go, I admit I am ignorant (but learning as much as I can as quickly as possible so I can be a worthy contributor to the community). My understanding has always been that PSA does not do any kind of sleeve inside the slab (I've only seen it in Beckett slabbed cards). So what the heck is that? Thank you!

PSA has done sleeves in the past. Not common but not unheard of.
PS - if you are talking about the large different shade of grey surrounding the card, that isn't a sleeve, but is frosting that is built into the slab. Last edited by bobbyw8469; 05-06-2013 at 04:36 AM. Reason: added info |

You can request the mylar sleeve from PSA when having your cards encapsulated, I believe. The sleeve does extend over the card for protection, as seen on the reverse scan of this Matty. This may only be available for certain types of cards.

I have owned hundres of vintage golf tobacco cards that were in holders just as these with the sleeve...it gives it a better appearance in my opinion than the clear part of the holder.

It's not really a sleeve, but more of a plastic lining I think. I have cracked a few and it is only behind the card (although I'm not 100%). I think PSA does it if the card is cut slightly different than the slabs and they want to prevent the card from bouncing around.

I personally like the "baggy". Seems to keep the card in place.

The "baggie" is great for fragile cards such as this:

i have a handful that has nothing over the front of the card.
i might be wrong about this...but it is just the thing that makes the frosted look between the card and the edge. it is supposed to lay flat. sometimes they are not cut perfectly and they don't lay flat. it then makes it it like what is in your picture. i have asked them about this in the past and they said they would reslab them for free. out of my collection i see about 1 to 2 percent of all of the ones slabbed have this problem. kevin Last edited by thehoodedcoder; 05-08-2013 at 06:58 PM. |
