I will be the first to admit that I know absolutely nothing about baseballs.
Can anyone here identify the baseball in the below photo and when it was produced? It contains some markings. Thank you. Corey.jpg Last edited by thetruthisoutthere; 06-27-2011 at 02:36 PM. |

I know the autographs are forgeries. It's a Morales certed piece of crap. I just need to know when that particular baseball was produced. Thank you.

It's got Ruth on it, so I would hope they would have sense enough to use a pre-1948 ball. But maybe that's where this is leading...

Corey Leiby of www.antiqueathlete.com wrote me the following:
It appears that after the last "5" in the model number their is a registered trademark symbol known as a rabol (an R in a circle.) If that is the case, there is no need to go any further because that was not used until the 1960's. |

The stitching and hole punch size doesn't looks 40's. And the quality of the black stamping looks very 1960s-1970s to me.

Thank you, Brandon. That was my initial suspicion even though I know absolutely nothing about baseballs.

Seems like an early 70's or late 60's baseball to me. I know Morales is a piece of crap, but my god, those signatures are horrific.

Yeah that registered trademark "R" in a circle is a giveaway. I was trying to look it up this AM when i saw the posting but couldn't find it in time and had to leave for work. i knew that was a fairly modern thing. Is that for sure that it started in the '60's?

We all love the below "1919 Blacksox" signed baseball that was "Forensically Examined" by Christopher L. Morales, Forensic Investigator. http://www.myccsa.com/Lot.aspx?LotID=274939 YYY.jpg The current high bid is $232.00. |
