I bought a 50in Vizio HD Plasma TV a little over 3 years ago and everything was fine until yesterday. I turned on the TV only to find a few green colored vertical lines have appeared out of nowhere. I made sure it was the TV by checking other inputs such as my DVD player and PS3.
Now I know my 60's music, U.S. presidents and some other non-baseball card stuff...but I am pretty dumb when it comes to electronics. Does anyone know offhand what the issue could be? Also, is it fixable and if so is it worth it, or should I just get a new LCD tv? Thanks to anyone who repsonds. Rob

I just googled your problem. There's all kinds of forums with people who write in their problems, and people usually chime in with their expertise. This question was for a different model, but same problem. Seems like a somewhat expensive fix.

Back in the fifties if the old black-and-white started acting up, if the vertical hold spazzed out or whatever, the cure was to slam the side of the TV with the heel of your palm. The theory being that this would knock the dust off the vacuum tubes. Usually worked. Now back to our previously scheduled thread.

You might be sol if they are also showing up on dvd it's probably the tv. The new plasmas out now are much better than the ones from a couple years ago so I wouldn't worry about getting another plasma if you need to get a new tv.

I feel so dumb, what I didn't do was unplug the TV for a few minutes. Plugged it back in and looks as good as new. Thanks for the replies and for putting up with my stupidity...

The dumb thing would have been to go buy another tv and then put your old one in another room and find out it works fine...not that I've ever done that.

You omitted the other key "fix" of those days. Pull off the tuner knob and spray it, and the contact points inside, with silicone spray. Some guys made a living cleaning contact points.

Maybe it was your cathode tubes.

We used to have to stand in different places with the little bat ear antennas...Sometimes we would wrap them in aluminum foil for better reception. I was going to suggest those things until Rob got his answer.

My parents were low-tech types. The heel of the palm worked well on kids that acted up or otherwise spazzed out, too.
