I was hoping to get some thoughts on 1934-36 Diamond Star Lefty Grove. I understand that it is the #1 card in the set and very hard to find in high grade. But my questions revolve around this...
Is it harder to find a sgc/psa7 or sgc/psa8 from 1934 than it is from 1935 or 1936? Is there a year that is more difficult? Is there a difference in value of a psa/sgc 7 for a 1934, 1935, 1936? Would many collectors "care" if their Grove was from a particular year or would they just be glad to own one? Thanks for the thoughts. Kelly |

Lefty Grove Diamond Star cards only come in 1934 or 1935. There is no 1936 version. I think the cards are fairly hard to find graded as 7 or 8. I would be more concerned about the eye appeal of the card rather than the year of the card. 1934's might be a little harder to find than 1935's, but I'm not sure that there is a notable difference in value between the two years. Once again, if you like the next 7 or 8 that you see, I would recommend bidding on it. They don't come around that often.

Here's a comparison between the 1934 and 1935 backs. The 1934 back shows that Lefty won 24 games and lost 8 in 1933. The 1935 back shows that Lefty won 8 and lost 8 in 1934. Lefty experienced his first arm problems in 1934 and his record in 1934 is evidence of that. Note that both backs are Green backs. There is no Blue back.
![]() Here's a scan of my first Grove Diamond Star. It's hardly a 7 or 8. Perhaps it is a 0.8. ![]()

Here is my Grove. Not the best picture, best I can do from an Iphone. It is a 1935. I saw a 1934 Grove go for big $$ in the Memory Lane auction that just finished and wondered if the year pushed it to a higher selling point, hence my posted questions.
