I have easy access to The State (Columbia, SC) newspapers. I came across this 1911 story on Joe Jackson, with an interesting version on the origin of his Shoeless nickname. I've never heard this one before. It makes me wonder if a 1911 article is more or less reliable than the "sore feet" story we've all heard.
