I picked up a lot of boxing movie cards and found these two Bert Lytell cards. One look at the nose on the opponent and I knew he was a pug. Turns out to be Ted "Kid" Lewis, a former welterweight champ and IBHOF member:

Nice catch. Guy in the 2nd card, at bottom right corner just outside the ring, looks a bit like Carpentier.
